I just wanted to give you guys a quick update on a few items:
The schedule for the remainder of the year is up on the calendar page. You will also find the snack mom assignments for each meeting. If you have an issue with bringing the snack please switch with another mother, or let me know well in advance!
Cookies and more cookies! Troop 2348 has done a wonderful job with everything cookie related. Since this is our first attempt at selling I am really happy with the way things turned out in the end. Many of you have expressed interest in continuing the efforts, and by all means GO FOR IT! We will have a surplus of boxes as a result of the way the council forces us to order, and I do not want any girl who wants to continue to sell to feel as if she needs to stop. Once cookie orders come in around Feb.9th you will be hearing from me about pick up times and locations. After we get all of that organized we can do additional cookie order turn-ins based upon surplus and council surplus.
I want cookie sales to be girl driven and do not ever want a girl to feel too much pressure when cookie time rolls around during the scouting year. If a girl prefers to sell to her family only, then it is more than ok! We did have some big sellers who sold 75-155 boxes and we want them to keep going if they would like to sell even more. Congrats to ALL of the girls for taking part in a Girl Scout tradition. In our eyes it is all about participating on any level and learning basic skills.
As part of the cookie badge we had a FANTASTIC time with the financial literacy portion of the badge work. We went to "Brownie Mart" with real life scenarios and learned about spending and just how far a dollar goes these days. We talked about budgeting and saving as well as what it means to consciously spend their parents hard earned money. It was a great activity and each girl participated with the utmost enthusiasm.
We are looking forward to earning more badges and getting more involved in the culture that is Girl Scouting. As we lay the groundwork for what is to come, the girls will soon begin to gain more know-how to work on badges on their own as we bridge to the next level.
